We’re Hiring: Environmental Technicians (Summer 2025 Positions)

The NBISC is looking for qualified person(s) to fill the role of Environmental Technician to assist ourorganization in our efforts to increase public awareness around invasive species and facilitate a collaborative& coordinated approach to invasive species management in the province.

Location: Fredericton (in-person)

Hourly wage: $18.00

Length of term: 16 weeks @ 37.5 hours per week

Anticipated start date: May 12th, 2025

Role Responsibilities

  • Research invasive species; compile and analyzeinformation from various sources

  • Assist with invasive species monitoring and removal activities, including eDNA collection, invasive plant surveys, insect trap installations, and plant removal efforts.

  • Answer public inquiries about invasive species andprovide timely and accurate information; addressquestions, concerns, and inquiries related toinvasive species.

  • Assist in planning and coordinating outreach events, workshops and educational programs.

  • Support the creation of outreach materials

  • Attend events to engage the public and targeted user-groups such as anglers, hikers, boaters, campers about behavioural change programs that focus on preventing the spread of invasive species.

  • Create social media content related to outreach events and educational programs.

  • Engage with and foster positive relationships with community members, partners and stakeholders to understand needs and preferences for outreach and educational events.

Candidates must meet criteria described by Canada Summer Jobs to be eligible:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period

  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment and

  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulation

  • International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible.
