2026 Position – Environmental Technician

Spend your summer protecting New Brunswick’s ecosystems in the field, in parks, and behind the scenes. 

The New Brunswick Invasive Species Council (NBISC) is seeking a motivated Environmental Technician to support invasive species monitoring, behavioural change programs, habitat stewardship, and public outreach across the province. 

This position offers a broad conservation experience, combining fieldwork, park-based outreach, research, data management, and communications. 

Hourly Wage: $18.54 
Length of Term: 16 weeks @ 37.5 hours/week 
Anticipated Start Date: May 11, 2026 

What You’ll Do

  • Assist with zebra mussel monitoring, including surface water sampling and field support under staff supervision. 

  • Support aquatic and terrestrial invasive species surveys and stewardship activities. 

  • Participate in hands-on invasive plant removal. 

  • Assist with data entry, mapping, and organizing monitoring records. 

  • Support delivery of NBISC’s behavioural change programs (e.g., Clean Drain Dry). 

  • Engage the public at parks, boat launches, and community events to promote invasive species prevention. 

  • Help develop outreach materials and social media content. 

  • Conduct background research to support monitoring and education initiatives. 


Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or entering post-secondary education in biology, environmental science, natural resource management, environmental studies, communications, or a related field

  • Interest in invasive species management and environmental stewardship. 

  • Comfortable working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. 

  • Strong communication skills and willingness to engage with the public. 

  • Organized, self-motivated, and able to work independently and as part of a team. 

  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends. 

  • Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation required.

  • Bilingualism (English/French) considered a strong asset. 

Location: Hybrid within the Fredericton Area. Travel will be required for field operations.
